Super Church!!!!

When the kids turned 3 they graduated from the nursery, and now attend SUPERchurch! Last Sunday we learned that our brave Han stood up in front of the whole crowd and said her memory verse, Romans 3:23.
She's learning all kinds of things up there. Tonight I heard her in the living room singing "Abwah fahthuh ham."

You might be married to a redneck if...

The babysitter takes your daughter across the street to a private school playground. On the way, they stop to look at some turkeys in a fenced area that someone in the school is raising. When you ask your three-year-old about it the next morning, she says, "Mom we saw some tuhkeys!!" And, in a "you're not going to believe what I'm going to tell you next" tone of voice, she says, "And nobody shoot them!!!!! There were lots of cars there, but NOBODY shoot them!!!!!" Sorry, no picture available, but you can bet that in a few years, Russ will have the twins out in camouflage trying to shoot one!

Buying shoes for a toddler.

The weather is warming up, and Hud was in need of a good pair of sandals. Sandals that were made of tried and true leather, with insoles that breathed instead of collecting a culmination of stinky smells for the next 5 months. "Shouldn't be hard," I thought as I had his foot measured and headed for his size. Instantly I saw at least 3 choices that I liked and was in the process of trying them on Hud when he spotted THEM.... Lightening McQueen sandals... made of 100% gen-u-wine, man-made foam, looking like they were imported straight from Tijuana, and featuring insoles that were sure to smell like the south end of a north bound donkey by the end of the month. From that point on, there was not another sandal in the store that agreed with Hud. "These hurt my toes."... "These are too pinchy."... "No, these are too big." If there's one thing I've learned since becoming a parent it's this, when the mind of a 3-year-old is made up, you better decide if you've got a battle worth fighting. So in the end, we left the store with a pair of sandals that made my son "so happy!"

What the kids have been up to lately....

Hud's been keeping the yard free of birds.

Han's been designing new ways to do her hair to look more like a princess, and.....

Learning how to wash the dishes. (Trust me, it's easier this way. Saves on the number of outfits used in a day due to water submersion)

Word Confusion

Tonight as I was getting dinner on the table, I pulled a dish of freshly warmed tortillas out of the microwave. Hud lifted the lid to peer inside and with great excitement in his voice said, "Diarrheas!!!"

For the least of these...

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'" Matt. 25:40

As I walked into the sanctuary for church on Sunday, I was completely unaware of the great privilege the King would bestow on me. I sat toward the back, right in front of a man named, Jim. Jim is a special part of our community, due to severe cerebral palsy. He is exteremly limited in his ability to move, and requires a lot of assistance with the simplest of tasks. He is also nearly deaf, and due to the palsy, his speach is incredibly hard to understand. Jim sits in the back of the sanctuary so that he can wear special headphones to hear the service.

The worship time was strongly focused on the Cross of Christ, and moved reverently into a time of communion. While the elements were being passed, Jim leaned forward and started talking loudly to me (due to his poor hearing and the headphones, he has no way of knowing how loud he is talking). I got a bit flustered that I couldn't understand him well enough to figure out what he needed, and I knew that we were causing quite a distraction during this sacred time. I finally realized that he was asking me to help him take communion. My first thought was, "Sure, Jim, I'd be happy to help you!" But as I sat there preparing my own heart, the Lord opened my eyes to the privilege and blessing he was allowing me to have in this moment...the opportunity to serve one of the least of my brothers in the celebration of Christ's death. Jim, a man who has suffered greatly in his physical body, yet is so full of the Spirit's joy... to physically put the bread and the juice to his mouth so that he could celebrate His Savior's death, and rejoice in his salvation was a Holy gift!
